I haven't had goats for a year. We sold our girls to a friend who lives just a few minutes away. We got to see them many times and they were doing great. She recently had all three bred through the original breeder and they were all due to kid in April. Her Dad came to visit and brought his two dogs with them. One is elderly and can barely get around but apparently is a bit of an escape artist. She told her Dad that it was best to keep the dogs locked in the house when they were all gone, but he kept them out in the yard last week, thinking that they were only going to be gone for about 15mins. They were separated from the goats by a wooden gate and fence. Apparently they managed to get through the gate and killed all three girls. I can't imagine how awful it was for her to come home and see the aftermath. They were my first goats (one was the only girl from our first groups of kids and was the sweetest goat I have ever met), and they were her first goats as well. She has spent so much time and money on those girls and her whole family was really attatched to them. It's just horrible that it ended this way.

Oh no, thats horrible.
I am so sorry for her loss, I know how hard it is.
I lost one of my goats to one of my own dogs a few years again and it was heartbreaking

I'm very sorry to hear that. That would suck so bad. I'm afraid to tell you that my relationship with my father (if it was me) would never recover from that. I would never look at him again without seeing it.

Once again, I'm sorry to hear it.

How horrible. This is a lesson for everyone. If it had been my father, I would have assumed that his friendly dogs were all right also. And many people forget that their loving pets have can have an instinct to kill.

We had to rehome a cocker spaniel because she was insistent on getting to our birds. She tore through wire to get to them!

My two remaining dogs seem to be very good with my chickens and our cat but I wouldn't trust them around animals that they have never been exposed to, like a goat. I am glad that I have my two dogs because I think that they would prevent another dog from hurting my chickens.

With every passing day, I get more and more anti-dog. We have two that roam our neighborhood. The owner's won't keep them in, and the dog catchers can never find them when they come by. They've killed 5 of my chickens so far.

please dont be anti dog, be anti none responsible owners...

i dont care where a person lives, its there responsibility to make sure their dogs are properly contained and if you dont want thel/cant keep them to take them to a shelter, instead it seems like letting them wander loose or just dumping them seems to be the choice for many...*sigh*

im so sorry you and your freind had to go through that, and im so sorry for her father too, i can only imagine the guilt he must be feeling right now knowing its his fault...

Her Dad really was devestated. Not having livestock, he probably just underestimated how much damage his dogs could really do. My friend is still recovering, of course, but she just sent me an email saying that this morning she was at a local farm that some friends of ours run and she got to help deliver a baby goat that was turned breech. She thought it was amazing and I'm sure it helped a little to see a new goaty life in the world.

I'm so sorry. Just this afternoon I caught our neighbour's two dogs in my goat pen. Luckily the goats had the dogs cornered, but it could have been so much worse. One is due to kid in less than two weeks. We made sure the dogs wouldn't want to be anywhere near us ever again. I just can't imagine how it would feel to have that happen.
