Goats: Triplets!

I can't pet or look at our meat goat. Ever since the day we said he was going to slaughter. The first pig we ever slaughtered I cried when my husband called and said the meat was ready. It took me a month to cook any. It is hard to do, but the meat tase a lot better than store bought and it is good for my family.

I have a turkey in my freezer that I can't bring myself to cook. We cooked one for Thanksgiving, and according to everyone else, it was excellent. Good thing we had ham, as I would have starved. I tried some of the turkey, but it just didn't taste right; my turkeys were always waiting for me when I went outside in the morning, with the hen "chirping" at me, and the boys gobbling.

Thanks for the kind words.

We had to do an emergency c-section today on one of our goats. We lost the mom but were able to save all three of her kids.

They're small but they're all doing excellent!

i have been around meat bred animals most of my life and yeah i had a hard time the first couple of times that we had to butcher them, but i figured out that if you have a "pet" of the same type of animal that you can pour all the affection on it makes it easier. When we had steers i had a bottle heifer, when we had meat birds i had a RIR laying hen, etc. i was the one with the attachment to animals in the family so i got to keep just about one of everything as long as i took care of it, because if i didnt it would be butchered...needless to say those animals were spoiled rotten and i wouldnt have it any other way.
