Goats!?!?!

Hello everyone. I am in need of some help. I have a year and a half mini goat who is sick. I took him to the vet. They gave him dome vitamin shots and had me worm him. His symptoms are: loss of appetite, dropped head, drooling, not really moving around, I have seen him pee and limited amount of pooping. He is in some pain but they vet gave me some antibiotics and some batimanie for pain and to bring her very slightly elevated fever down. I syringed him with oil and baking soda to help him move his bowls along. His stomach was bloated and a little hard but today it is not. Any help would be great. He's my baby I have had him since he was 10 days old

Sounds like listeriosis to me, which is an EMERGENCY. This disease is more common in adults than kids.

"Listeriosis is brought on by feeding silage, suddenly changing type and kind of feed (grain or hay), parasitism, dramatic weather changes, and advanced stages of pregnancy. The encephalitic form is most common, causing inflammation of the nerves in the goat's brain stem. Symptoms include some or all of the following: depression, decreased appetite, fever, leaning or stumbling or moving in one direction only, head pulled to flank with rigid neck (similar to symptoms of tetanus), facial paralysis on one side, blindness, slack jaw, and drooling. Diarrhea is present only in the strain of Listeriosis which causes abortions and pregnancy toxemia."

He needs to start on a high dosage of procaine penicillin, asap! This article has information on the dosage needed and treatment schedule. Do you know how much he weighs? This is critical to know to ensure a proper dose.

He could have also gotten into something and is poisoned. Though it is likely too late to give activated charcoal, at this point.

Also, probiotic paste at trac supply daily will help gi tract enormously. Give a little 1x day keep the rest in the fridge. Goat drench is good for energy and some vitamins has directions. Fort b comp shots daily as well. As the prior person said get the right antibiotics. Have you given cd&t yet or treated or tested for cocci?

Gas x is good for bloat as well or mylacon baby gas drops. Sounds like it could be a bad case of cocci as well and liquid sulmet is great I would use 20cc 1st day and 10cc for the nest 4 days it works better than corrid and albon~liquid form is labled foor poultry.

Ok, I know I'm a little late to post, but just wondering if goats will kill and eat everything. Even if they have hay, supplements and grain? And are occasionally taken out to tether (only under our supervision!) they wil have 10,000 sq. feet and a 300 ft milking/feeding pen. There are a lot of cedars and some oaks.
