Oh my goodness, starting a controversy was not at all what I was trying to do here. Let's try and sort some of this out please.
Why did I mention we were on our way to feed the homeless.... cuz I think it is a cool thing to do that we love to do every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Maybe it will motivate others to do the same. Does it compromise my integrity by telling anyone that that is what we did, I don't think so. I wasn't feeding the homeless for "brownie points" I was doing it because it is something I am passionate about and we do it everyyear and help out in many other ways throughout the year (which I won't go into to spare what remains of my integrity). It is part of an organized effort and yes, we want to get the word out to encourage others to do the same. If that makes me look guilty or integrity-less, I apologize.
As far as the the man who let the shopping carts go, we helped him remove the carts and then he went on his way to round up more. He did not seem in anyway effected and is still there doing the same job. And I hope he will be for as long as he wants to be. It is one of the reasons I shop there to support business that employ the developmentally delayed.
As far as the cost of repairs, I went to three shops, got three independent estimates and they were all within 45 dollars of each other. The paint does need to be blended into the back door. And my power mirror had to be replaced which apparently you need to take the whole door apart to do. Not to mention the strip thing that goes down the door can not be reused when you take it off to paint the door. And then there is fixing the dent itself. And all this takes several days because apparently you need to paint in stages. And so I would need a rental car.
Which I declined to lower the cost but maybe I shouldn't tell you that because I would feel guilty about doing a good deed.
The store does have liability insurance for incidences exactly like this. My insurance company is not liable and nor should they be. I pay them money to cover my butt not someone elses. I know the store manager personally, (I may regret saying this, but it is where Jessica works) and the man was neither chastised or disciplined, which I made clear when I went to tell the manager that I would withdraw my claim and would shop somewhere else if he was.
I am afraid to go into what a blessing this is for us at this time. AT THE RISK OF BEING ACCUSED OF MANIPULATING THIS SITUATION, I am a single mom with three kids who is on workers comp for an injured back. Do I need this money??? YES! Did I anticipate, cause or manipulate this in anyway??? NO!!!! It was an unforseeable accident that turned into a blessing for me. I don't know how to reply to anyone who will look down on me for that.
SOOOO in summary, I apologize if I am a scumbag for telling you I feed the homeless at the holidays, the estimates were apparently reasonable for the amount of damage, the store is liable for the damage and I am not obligated to fix my car if I choose to drive around with 3 small dents and scraped paint and a dented mirror and take the loss at sale time, and the man had NO disciplinary action whatsoever.
SO, NOW can I enjoy my incubator which I have every intention of ordering today (after I pay off bills) with a small percentage of my check?
Maybe now wouldn't be a good time to ask if anyone has Welsummer eggs?
