It looks like I will be going back to school at long last. I quit college after two years back when I was 19, I just didn't have the determination and understanding of how important it was. Of course since then, I haven't had the money to go back. Now that my husband has been declared 100% disabled by the VA, I qualify for school funding through their spouse/children program. I am 95% sure I will be going for my Agricultural Education degree and certification through Cal Poly Pomona. Anyone else over 30 and going back to school? I am going to feel sooooo old!

If you never finished college and had the opportunity to go back, what would you major in?

So happy you want to continue your education!.........

I went back when the baby of the house turned 1; I don't regret it for a second! In two years I accomplished my associates and another two years my BS. I majored in Human Biology and I have a minor in Chemistry (it just sounds impressive; trust me it is not...) My goal was to become a Veterinarian but......

Anyway, I am now considering going back and getting my BSN. With the economy the way it has been, I have not been able to find anything better than part time work (so I am working 3 part time jobs...) and so I am unable to start repayment on the loans....

I am leaning toward becoming a Labor and Delivery RN, or a Surgical RN. I have not made up my mind yet (heck I have not even made it into the program yet!).

I think I am hijacking this thread! My apologies!

I'm turning 32 and I have a BS in Animal Science.

In the next year or two, I'll be going back to get the education credits to needed become a teacher. They offer a condensed summer course for people who already have a degree so you can start as a provisonal teacher.

Good for you! I wasn't that old when I was in college, but I think I was the only pregnant student waddling around UCLA at the time. It feels weird to be at a different place in life than so many other students, but the education is worth it. Best of luck to you!

Not over thirty but I will be 26 in October and I am going back- actually I started last Tuesday. I'm going to a 4 year school, and I am surrounded by students fresh out of high school or 1 or 2 years out on a daily basis. It's akward, but IMHO, I am not there to make friends, I am there to get an education. I'm sure I will meet people along the way, but for now I need to focus on my studies(Batchelor's Degree in Nursing)

I feel your pain, but in the long run we'll be better off for tuffing it out! We can do this!!!

My husband went back to school a few years ago for his psycology degree, but he was able to get into a program designed specifically for working people over 25 so he didn't have the fresh out of school kids in his classes. It should be interesting to be in school with a bunch of 18-21yos, but I am looking forward to it.

Congrats and more power to you.

After 5 years of school and 1 year of continuing education and only 1 yr on the job, I've been laid off with no hope of getting rehired ANYWHERE within commuting distance. I've thought about it myself but I'm not sure what for ...

Good luck, PotterWatch!

When I went back, the kids in my classes were all 10 years younger than me; talk about a gap! I must say though, it was a benefit for me so I could deal with my teenagers! Learning all the new slang terminology and the phrases was a big help.

Yep, I imagine they will almost all be 10yrs and more younger than I am. I just hope I can get into the program. I have no idea how difficult it will be. After all, my grades from college previously are all from more than a decade, really almost 15yrs, ago and weren't very good (hence dropping out early). I would imagine they would easily take me though, after all, being older and more mature should be an asset.
