well... got to that point that is going big enough not to need daily care or not even start.
I have a demanding job, working 11/12h/day and the only experience with chicken and other animals is from my parents that allways had them.
So i'm planning something for the future and retirement in 25y or so...

Have been preparing the site for the past year and want to start building this spring.
Lots of Questions...
* will chickens hop on to the nest boxes or do they need somekind of platform?
* will they all get inside at dusk or do they need some "motivation"

please give me some feedback on my plans
thanks from Portugal

Big stone right in the middle of the construction...
Using old methods managed to break it all by hand.
took me 3 saturdays, 3 jackhammer wood handles and lots of cursing :)

I’m excited for your planning!

They will hop up for nesting, but at different levels depending on the breed. Smaller, flighty breeds will hop up easily about a meter, but larger breeds like to only move their big fluffy butts about half that height.

Keep in mind that if you want to brood babies with your hens, you will need a floor space nesting area as well.

They will come back into their coop at dusk.

Pretty cool looking illustrations.
What program(s) are you using?
Tho the model is rotated from the floor plan, which as an old drafter I find kind of odd.
Would be good to show some dimensions on the floor plan.

I think the nests should have a perch about 8" out front of nests,
if nests are higher than about 12" off the floor.

Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!
