Hi! Congrats on the wee ones hatching!

I just wanted to say, years ago I used to hatch quite a bit. Nowhere near as much as a lot of people but still did my fair share. One of my childten wanted Silkies so bad and that is the one thing I was never able to hatch. I lost them at every stage from never starting to develop to pip then die. I know a lot of people hatch Silkies (obviously) but that was something that just wasn't for me! I think it takes some magic touch I just don't have!

I must not have it either last one just died during zipping. Only one out of 13 made it all the way through. I could tell it was having trouble but i left it in thinking it would pull it off. Finally i decided to help but was too late. Zipped half way. It was super sticky even tho himidity has stayed around 75%. All other 13 have gone smoothly. So now im worried. I have 8 others that pipped 12 hours ago and no further progress. Could they have suffocated? Eggs were getting trampled by hatched chicks so i finally quickly took them out. Even then humidity went right back to 75%. Did i kill them opening the bator? Chicks were really spinning/rolling eggs around. Could that have caused isses? Anything i can do to avoid next time?

Personally I open my incubator as the chicks dry. The exception for me is if I have an egg zipping I won't open. I would give the others some more time. Some chicks from pip to zip move very quickly. Others can take hours. A couple of my eggs in my last hatch pipped Saturday morning and finally joined us Sunday afternoon.

Actually now it is 28 of 30 that made it to lock down hatched (60%). 2 others almost out. Other 10 no movement.

I open the bator to remove chicks throughout the hatching process and have NEVER had a chick that has pipped or started zippingdie in the shell. I don't care what anyone says, it's not that easy to "kill" a chick by just opening the bator when your humidity is that high.
