My turkey hen Trudy is raising her first poults. The young ones are about 9 weeks old and yesterday we discovered a secret nest of hers in the tall grass with 4 eggs! My husband saw her mating with the tom the other day and I have a feeling she might be gearing up to go broody for a second time this year. Is this normal for turkeys to raise two broods? Should I even let her? She dropped quite a bit of weight brooding out the first clutch and I wonder if a second round would deplete her body too much. And if I were to let her sit on eggs again, what about first set of poults? They are still very attached to her and follow her around like little puppies. Would she she still tolerate them around her? I personally wouldn't mind another clutch, but I don't want to let this hen wear herself out.
