Our chicks will be 4 weeks old on Friday. Its still chilly here in NJ, so I'm wondering when they can make their first trip outside for a little bit? Its supposed to be 50 tomorrow.. is that still too cold for a half hour or so in the yard?

Also, we've been moving our heat lamp higher and higher each week. Do we just turn it off at the end of the week? They are enclosed in a spare bedroom that gets warm since the door is closed. Do we just watch them to see if they are too cold?

Thanks!!
Melissa

If you put them outside in a coop, it would be a good idea to put a heat lamp out there with them. They can adjust to the cold nights with the lamp for heat. At 4 weeks they will still want the warmth but can take on the cold now with here feathers on.
