Okay so I have about 12 pullets that are about four months old and 8 that are varied younger ages. So three days ago I picked up two white leghorn laying hens, they are about a year old and were in with the meanest roo I have ever met. So I brought them home and put them in a little space attached to my run for my four month olds but separated because I knew there would be problems. When I let them out the first day all they did was yell at each other, the four month olds running in and out of their hen house and the new ones being very very loud. Today they were a bit more calm, I didn't expect eggs right away because of the housing switch for them but the one leghorn acted like she was working on something all day. Her abdomen and vent was contracting and twice I seen her lay down and breathe heavier but when I went to check on them and close up the houses around 8 there was still nothing. Is it normal for them to be acting like this all day and still no egg? I have never had leghorns before and can't say I have gotten off to a great start here. Any advice is appreciated :) Thanks guys

Your hen MAY BE acting this way from stress and not from the need to lay an egg. Is the hen overweight? Is the weather there hot? It could be an egg laying problem and if she has been straining to lay for that long then she is egg bound. Post again asking advice on egg binding. If it's stress try to make her surroundings calmer, quieter and cooler if need be.

Yes it is hot here I did collect an egg this morning so she was working on one the other hen was doing it today so we will see what tomorrow brings. Thanks :)
