With the recent loss of two of my girls and one who is molting my egg selling 'situation' shal we say is less than desirable!

SOOOO.... hubby told me that I may want to go get a few more girls! I fell off my chair and put my hand to his head to see if he was running a fever. HOLY COW BATMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LEMME AT 'EM!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you think for one second that i was going to shrug this chance off no way. nnnooooo way. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I running with it.

So, I have a four day vacation in August with no chick sitter availalbe so I thought I would check out some needy girls at a few farm rescue places local to me. I talked to one that has 3 girls and a roo just waiting for a good home. Now I can not take the roo. No way I would upset 'Bird. soooooo.... tomorrow at 4 I am going to check 2 of the girls out. I gotta leave their guy with a hen, so I could take two i guess. If you force me toooooo......

I rescued two hens back in 2010 and was really lucky No issues, no disease, nothing (no eggs from MayMay either, but she is the best thing to happen to me since sliced bread!). I am kinda leary to bring home rescues, but we shall see.

Other than that, Meyers has 16 week old RSL available the 27th of June. They would be old enough to put in with my current flock by the time i take my vacation in August.

I miss having peeps though, Anyone want to chick sit for me for four days in August?????
cant wait cant wait cant wait until tomorrow!!!!!!!!

They are just an awesome sanctuary! I spent two hours out with them checking out all the animals. horses, tons of pigs and ducks, a bunch of rescue roosters from a cock fighting ring that got busted and more.

They had a really cool rooster who 'guards' three hens that they have currently. One is a great little RSL. Friendly as can be. Fat, looks healthy, etc. They had two other hens that are really cool looking. Full muff and beard looks like my EE. They said they give white eggs though. ?????

They had this one roo who broke my heart. Said that the people used duck tape to his legs and threw him out on the sidewalk as bait for a dog fighting training. The poor guy had been torn up pretty good. He really did seem to be coming around great! most of his feathers were gone, but no infections. Broken toes, but walked fine. he was such a sweetheart. I sat with him and fed him grass and dandilions for about 20 minutes. A total doll. I cant even figure out how he could be so nice after being treated like that by people. I want him SOOOOOOO bad. I cant have two 'big guys' at my place though. I sponsored him and will see what I can do for him for treats and the like.

They also had a duck who could not be housed with any other ducks because he would fight with them. Looked like a Pekin, but mixed tan and white coloring. Sweety as well.

They are such a careful place that they require a house visit to see where the animals will be going. I told them to stop out anytime to check out my tajmahal and 'Bird and the fluffy butts'. The girl was excited about it. Of course, I have photos of the flock on the cell phone and had to show her them. She had to laugh. I told her I was interested in two of the hens (gotta leave their guy a girl!) and the duck. ( the duck was currently housed with the abused rooster). It seemed like the duck got along fine with the chickens, just no other ducks. So we shall see what happens when they come out to see my girls.

It was an awesome experience to say the least. They are local to my home, so I offered to donate any time with the ducks and chickens that they would need. They were thrilled and happy to have someone with some 'chicken and duck' experience. Cant wait to play with them!!!!! lol

If not, I am going to pick up 6 started pullets from Meyers on the 27th.

Wow, it sounds like going to the farm rescue was a great experience. Thank heavens that poor roo used as bait was rescued.

One way or another you will get some happy additions to your flock.

x2 Sounds like a really nice place. But that poor roo
