My Chickens have been in their coop and run for a few months now, and are all roosting at night as they should . My question is why do they go to roost so early? The auto door closes at 7:30 pm but they start to go in at 5:00pm. We are in southern California so it still warm outside and it stays light till after 8pm.

Chickens don't like the heat, so perhaps it's cooler inside their coop at that hour. Some like to just roost earlier than others.

I had a Silkie rooster that was so bad he would stay out until dark because he would be catching all the big worms that come out!

From experience, it's better that they go in earlier LOL!

I wish mine would go to bed early.

I get up at 5:30 on workdays and during these long days I'm ready to go to sleep before they are.
Oh, yeah, ditto! I get up to let them out about 15-20 minutes before sunrise, so 5:30 right now. They go to roost about 9-9:15. I'm yawning and ready for bed by 8:30! :lau
