I got a little girl from the feed store as a gift three weeks ago. She's growing up so fast and is the most friendly and curious of the three chicks. I can't wait to see her grow up. The more I read about this cross, the more I like them! I want to see more pics!

i've done market pens and breeding pens for the county fair, but this year i started my first flock of layers. Golden Comets r excellent starter birds, they r easy to handle and pleasent to be around. i get atleast one egg from every hen every day. They also have a high rate of double yolks and extra large eggs.

One way to tell a good layer is if they have pale skin on their legs and face, they have large pale vents and a soft pliable pubic bone. It sounds bizarre but one of my show books also suggests thin, trim bodies and thin skin below the pubic bone as good traits too.

My birds r a little ovr 9 months old and i've had almost no health problem. However i had an incident where one of the hens (i call her Jill) got a scratch on the back of her head and the other birds frenzied ovr the blood and pecked the wound until it was to the point of needed stitches in a matter of hours. I was able to treat it with an over the counter antiseptic spray and neosporin but it is absolutely necessary to quarantine a bird thats bleeding. After she healed i placed her back with the rest of the flock and she not lives happily out n the yard.

i love my gold comets and they lay big brown eggs every day. they are friendly and calm but since i don't have a rooster they think I am it. It is fun to watch them come to me and peck at my legs

i just got 2 that are supposed to be already ;aying - have 2 RIR's and wanted 2 more or barred rock but had access to theses and they seem nice. calmer than the RIR's that I love so we will see what happens. only ownded them 1 hr.

I have 2 amazing golden commits. few to lay this month. they are so pretty and so calm and joyful. I have heard of this breed getting egg bound though. just watch out for penguin like walking. add some olive oil to the water for a few days and if it is still going after a day ish take her to the vet ASAP. they might be able to take the eggs out. good luck

great pets and egg layers!!

My comets are very good layers. Some started about six months, a couple haven't started yet (about seven months). Glad you posted this, as they are not in the breed profiles.
