they seem nice enough... they always want to mob me when i have treats

thought i'd keep one of the roos as a calm gentleman but looks like pancake (the silver phoenix) has won the deal thus far

This is funny -- my two cochins look just like yours, but they were sold to me as "Partridge Cochins." Up to this very minute that's what I thought they were -- being hatchery chicks I wasn't looking for show quality. One is more auburn while the other is very golden.

Do not worry about the feather color.
Most of my Laced Cochins feathered in dark with almost no lacing at all at the beginning, but today they are some of my most beautiful birds I have. They will go at least through 5 molts until they will have the final beautiful laced plumage. Be patient, your birds look very nice to me already and I cannot wait to see photos when they are a little bit older.

Not sure, but I think I have heard about the seller of your hatching eggs before and he has a good reputation around here.

Crazy Huhn: Thanks! I was getting worried there!!! (not that i show my birds but these ones i let my husband pick out so that he'd let me expand our flock a little

) Now i just have to worry about which ones are roos.

Miss Jenny: I thought that 'partridge' had a more penciled look. Yours definitely look more like mine than partridge to me... but what do i know?

How are their temperments?

You are so funny. I have decided that one of my SilverLaced Cochins LF is my husbands favourite as well (she seems to have a light vision problem and he makes sure she gets some scratch before the others will eat it all...)

I am attaching two photos for you and others here to see how she looked as a baby and how she looks today.

Khyree -- mine don't look very Partridgey to me either. I just figured they were the hatchery version -- what do I know? Their temperaments, though, are very nice. They are what I call "lap-sitters". One of them even coos while she sits on my lap. I think you will like yours.

I had the same worries about my SLWs... I looked them up, thought they were pretty and bought them on impulse. Then I was horribly sad when they were ending up a goofy ugly mottled color. But low and behold, at about 10 weeks I really started to notice the lacing and was jumping for joy

I just can beleive how different the hattchery stock feather out than the show/breeder stock.

Wow! Guess I won't get rid of my SLC pullet. She is the spitting image of your first pic. A lesson in patience.

Crazy Huhn

Thanks for the photos! She is a beautiful bird!

When did she first start showing red in her comb? Do you remember?

Quote:
Thank You. I really like her and her sisters a lot.
I do not remember when the comb started to get really red, I guess it was about the time they started to lay at around 7 month (mine hatched in June). And just on a side note here: A lot of people say that Cochins are poor layers, mine are some "Laying Machines", even though they are already 2 years old - 5 to 6 eggs per hen every week is impressive for a Cochin.
