I know Gold Top girl chicks are gold and boys are white, but can anyone tell me just how dark does the gold need to be. I have a chick that's light gold and am hoping she's a girl. Fingers crossed!

I'm sorry, ou will have to explain what "gold top" is. I haven't heard of it.....

A Gold Top is a cross between a Silkie boy and a Light Sussex girl, which makes sex link chicks (gold for girls and silver for boys), but it doesn't seem as easy as I expected. Check out my girl (I hope!).

A bantam, 5 weeks on Tuesday. When hatched the gold was covered by black, but now showing up. Gold Tops are supposed to be mellow, but she's a right madam. Think I might call her Cleopatra.

That's a male. He's Silver. A female would have hatched reddish coloured. Gold-tops are a RSL here in the UK, historically used as broodies; the cross to Light Sussex is meant to add size as well as provide the sex-linkage.

Oh ok. I was and am still confused. Sorry.
