I have a very pretty 5-6 month old Golden Comet. Her comb is still a very pale pink. Should I expect it to significantly redden up before she starts laying, or is that not something that Golden Comets typically do as they mature? Thanks!

Any hen's comb gets larger and redder as she reaches sexual maturity. I was always taught the comb was an indicator to the rooster she was breedable and fertile, and that's why birds who are ill, molting or broody have combs that are pale. They're not in a good physical place to reproduce. My red sex links always had nice big red combs when they started laying.

X2.
