Well our Columbian Wyandotte just went broody!

. I went out to check on our Golden Laced Wyandotte then our Columbian Wyandotte got into a nest box and laid an egg then used her beak to move it under her body then sat on it and would not get up and did not make any noise when I put my hand in front of her.

Oh wait she's not broody she out in the run right now. We put her egg under our Golden Laced Wyandotte, that's the 7th egg under her. We hope the eggs hatch

I just love the Wyandottes, they are my fav! I have silver, gold and BLR Wyandottes. Good luck with the hatch and they make good mamas.

If you add eggs at different intervals under a broody hen... won't that stagger the hatching dates?

How do folks do this? Collect the eggs out of the nests and fake out the hen with fake eggs... then once you got enough put them all back under the hen at the same time?

Cheers!

It wasn't our intention...we thought we had blocked off all of the paths for other hens to get in and lay. We have now. We are leaving what is under her because we don't know which eggs are the newer ones. They may not hatch since they came two days later than the rest of the clutch.

Sorry if it sounded like I was chiding you... I truly was not. This is all new to me. I'm really interested in how folks gather and put fertile eggs under a broody hen.

Cheers!
