Golden Laced Wyandotte going BROODY!

Sorry if it sounded like I was chiding you... I truly was not. This is all new to me. I'm really interested in how folks gather and put fertile eggs under a broody hen.

Cheers!

Not at all - I was explaining it more for others than you lol

I have a GLW that went broody 5 times this past year. Drove me nuts!
I never tried to break her but she is in the free range egg selling flock so I did not let her hatch any. Maybe this year I will. She sure seems to want to....or else avoid the roos in the free range flock!

Please mark the eggs that are under her that way if she "collects" any more or some friends deposit some in her nest you will know which ones to remove.

That being said...

I'm very partial to my GLW momma... she hatched out 3 chicks in Maine winter (it has been down to 20 below) and everyone is doing great:

I have a Wyandotte that went broody about 3 weeks ago. We have no Roo in the flock just hens. She has no eggs under her. How long will she stay broody???

Last Thursday we try'ed moving our Golden Laced Wyandotte to a new nest box because the other hens wanted to use the nest she was in, so we moved her (and her eggs) to a new nest box with chicken wire over it but she got real angry and kept pecking at the chicken wire so we let her out and she ran out into the run and started pecking everyone (we dont know why she pecked everyone) then a few minutes later she was back in her original nest box without her clutch of eggs, we quickly moved her eggs (that were still warm) back into her nest box with her. What I'm saying is that a hen will act broody with no eggs. Also she may be playing house or just cold (is it cold where you live?).
