Golden Laced Wyandotte Thread!

Pics
Got a few pics of my girls while they were raiding the silkie coop for left over spaghetti noodles..

Sorry for the bad pick, they wouldn't stay still, and I have a real poop of a cell phone. Things 3 years old!

Gonna need saddles soon... Boys really like them!

I'm wondering how many of us have hatchery dottes and how many bought from a breeder. I'm working on improving my birds and I'm having a hard time finding quality birds. I have found some really nice pullets and I have several 8 week olds that I'm growing out.

My first dottes are breeder. I also picked up some dottes from chick days, and I can already tell they are not near as nice a quality. Legs are not SOP color. They also have black combs, and one has a single comb. The silvers are also not near as nice as my Veena (RIP) was. I am not disappointed though. I knew that I would get hatchery quality... And did not expect breeder quality. BUT I got them on the quick since I had a hen who had been sitting for several weeks and her eggs were not developing... well they quit developing... SO...

I posted to the Wyandotte thread and got no responses, so I came here. This is my GLW cockerel. He's 10 months here. I'm looking for honest opinions as to type. His lacing is great, but you can't see it in these photos. I am moving forward with my breeding plan. I have several GLW pullets with him and will be adding a few SLW pullets to the pen when they mature, from a show flock. I'm hoping to improve type and not lose lacing. Any comments are welcome. I won't have anymore chicks from him until fall, it's just too hot here to put babies outside in the summer.

Wow, he is a pretty boy. What do you mean? Opinions as to type? Are you meaning SQ, BQ, or PQ?

Yes, How close is he to the standard. I've read and read it but can't find pics of good GLW so I'm going by photod of the other varieties. I'm also finding alot more cushion on alot of birds than how I understand the standard.

And thank you!

I'd take him to shows, get judges opinions and scoring, and see where he stands there. You could also take some of your SQ pullets, have him cover them and see what quality he is throwing. Keep the ones that have the qualities you want to continue, cull/sell off the PQ. Some times you'll have some traits you want in an offspring, but others you don't, you could always breed to those qualities... Good luck!
