Golden Laced Wyandotte?

good deal. I had a glw hen plus ab 5 bsl hens, which was the whole reason I got the rooster to begin with, but when I first got him he was sick with some sort of respiratory disease, whiped out his mate and the bsl's and almost the barred rocks and himself. had to keep them medicated for weeks. thanks for the speedy response guys

I would not be using a bird that had been ill for breeding. To me that shows genetic weakness and I would not want to pass that on. Healthy rooster die for lack of homes every day.

well I see your point, but he was also young and in the care of someone else (obviously not very good care). the entire flock was on deaths doorstep, but the ones that survived have all rebounded and are healthy as can be. I lost 6 and retained 6. as I stated earlier, he has been the one lone free range bird, foraging the property for 6 months plus, and has managed to stay alive where there is a multitude of Hawks, fox, etc etc. that in itself has to count for something right? ;)

X2. Respiratory illnesses in poultry usually aren't cured by medication. Birds often remain carriers for life which means they can possibly infect any future birds you get. Breeding a susceptible bird just passes on the weak immune system to future generations.

Not to me if he and all your other birds are now carriers. If you keep a closed flock and never sell a chick I guess it would be your own business though.

so now, if GLW roo x BR hen yields BSL,
does that mean that a GLW roo x BSL hen will yield GLW?

It depends. Would you use a pullet from the first cross or a hatchery black sex link?
