Golden sex links - is one a ROO?

We had to get a variance to have our chickens - and are not allowed roosters. We have 10 total, 3 of them Golden Sex Link "Females"? But at about three to four weeks old one of them started getting a lot whiter, and growing a comb and waddles. We hope the other two would change also, but nope. "She" is bossing the others around a lot too. Here's a pic of the questionable white one, with one of our other golden comets. All are about 10 weeks old. Afraid we will hear a cocka-doodle-do one morning and have to run out there with a hatchet before the neighbors find out. :-(.

I guess we can return it to the feed store for a replacement. The kids don't want to eat it! At what age can I put a young new female in with my 9 older chickens? . So, the sex link thing is not 100% reliable, apparently. :-(. They looked "identical" at a few days to three or four weeks old... To us, anyway.

The sex link thing is reliable, but those who sort the chicks at the hatchery are in a hurry and often make mistakes. It happens. Yes, 100% it is a cockerel.

Integrating another bird at this juncture will take some patience and tact. I prefer to integrate 2 or 3 birds into a larger grouping. Being the only new kid on the block is tough.

MKK FARMS- do you mean both are Roos? Or does x2 mean that you agree that the white one is a Roo?

Times 2 or Times 3, means the person agrees with the remark about them.

No, the birds shown are obvious. The reddish one being the female, of course, and the white one being the male, just as it should be with sex links. Notice the difference is leg size, and the prominence of red comb and wattles on the cockerel. Pullets do not show those secondary features until closer to sexual maturity. This would "sex" these birds, even if the photo was in black and white.

We took him back to the feed store where we got all 10 of our chicks and they gave us a "teenage" hen in return. They had no more Golden Sex links, so we got a New Hampshire Red and she is hilariously friendly. Loves to sit on our laps, perch on our shoulder etc. The other day she perched on the edge of the dutch door on our mini-barn, keeping my dad company as he did electrical wiring for over 2 hours!

That was great that they traded it out for you, some places won't do that. Glad it worked out!!
