i have a small egg eating issue. it happens about 2 times a week. one chicken eats an egg. maybe its own? so i have moved the boxes around, more hay, less hay,etc . they are fed well.i put a few golf balls in each box. they were not happy,i get 5 to 7 eggs most days. only 1 after the golf eggs. funny birds!

I don't have the most experience, but it sounds like your chickens are needing something. Chickens tend to eat their own eggs if they are lacking something certain in their diet. Maybe certain proteins or calcium? It could also be caused by stress. Are your chickens over crowded?

Yeah, chickens don't like change, but they can get used to new stuff, just takes time.
If you free range, they may be laying elsewhere.

Your eaten eggs.....is any of the shell remaining....if so, is it thin and thus easily broken?
More info about your birds might help solve the problem.
Age?
How long laying?
What all and exactly how are you feeding?

they are well fed, lots of room. i think it started because they like to lay in the same box , and some one broke an egg, and well it was good eats. 2 rir, 3 aus,2 orp, 1 br ,1 white leg horn, and 1 not sure of.
