So I opened up my nest boxes and I read that some people use golf ball's and just wondering if it's ok that they have writing on them and will the chickens peck at them and continue to peck at their eggs when they start laying!! Thanks

Writing is fine. The point is to show that it's a safe place for eggs. Also, it's supposed to work as a deterrent to egg eating. The idea is that they try pecking the golf ball, and nothing happens, so they'll assume the same with eggs as well. We've had golf balls in our nests for a month now, and on Wednesday we got our first egg, right next to the balls. Seemed to work nicely. I recommend the brands Wilson and Titleist.
