Golf Balls ????

Someone has told me to place one or two golf balls in the nesting box to encourage the hens to lay- Is this correct ?

Yep, shows them where to lay the eggs. "If one chicken layied an egg there it should be good for me too" thinks the chicken.

Well, not to encourage them to lay, they will do that when they are good and ready! To encourage them to lay in the nest box.

works well my girls have quite a few to sit on i have also found that my hens wont lay an egg unless there is already a golf ball or an egg in it!!!

We did this when our girls started laying in the floor. Didn't take long for them to figure it out.

My barred rock was in there one time and I checked to see if she was done...no egg so I just moved the two golf balls she was sitting on out of her way...to the side. When I came back to get the egg she had layed, she had moved the golf balls back underneath her...yup, they like golf balls.
