I brought mine home in a dog carrier. The lady I bought him from had a great idea and we DID end up putting him in back seat.
She put his tail thru the bottom, then left the cage door open just a tad so as not to squish his tail but still enuff to hold him in, the door was only open about 1/4 inch, and used extra long zip ties to zip tie the cage door secure. I wished I had taken a picture, but I was at a loss as to how to do it. This was a pet carrier tho so it fit in the back seat.
VERY IMPORTANT: >>>Also bring a sheet or light blanket to cover cage or carrier or whatever you have. If its darkened they are less likely to try to throw themselves against the bars, they are notorious for that and sometimes hurt themselves.
Its actually best to cover it before you put them in there. Made the mistake of putting mine in the cage and THEN covering it after they threw themselves around for a full minute. I learned THIS after the first peahens I bought lacerated their chests flinging themselves against the bars. They did heal up thank goodness but it was more stressful for them than I would have wished for, me being a newbie and they could have killed themselves. They had been totally freerange so were crazy upset about the cage and I didnt have a blanket in the truck.
Just things I have learned this last year in buying peas.
Good luck on your new passion.
They are strikingly beautiful. I brought the silver pied home, he is a five year old, and I have one male thats 9 months old. The 5 year old is displaying and my lil 9 month old displays back, like "see I can do that too!" Its comical cuz my youngster has a tail about 8 inches long if even that.
