Good and SAFE way to get rid of snakes?

I have a lot of experience with snakes, 31 years now. My SO has 50 years experience with them. The only way to successfully get them gone is if they have no food source. They will not hang around an area if there is no food. All of us with chickens, the feed attracts rats so therefore snakes.

Yeah. That story is always in the front of my mind when I haul out the riding mower. It's one of the reasons I carry a big stick with me while mowing. Wonder if the lawnmower battery is strong enough to charge up heart paddles for after my snake induced heart attack?

I think this will be our course of action for now -



1)Moth balls in cans.

2)If 1 doesnt work, re-home the snake.

3)If he comes back, i'll tell dad to get the lawn mower out!!!


I dont want to kill him, but If he doesnt leave my chooks alone, then its go time.

Moth balls do not work. If you have to I would rehome. It would be a shame to kill the snake because of all the good they do keeping the rodent population down. Also if you are afraid of snakes, the black snake eats others snakes such as rattlers and copperheads. That fact alone should be enough to not kill the snake.

I know. He was beautiful. Personally, I love snakes - and the good they do - but Its not me who is scared of it, its my mother. Well, I'm scared for the fact that he looks so big he could just grab my little faverolle and run, but not of him being a snake. It would be a shame to kill him, but I just cant take a chance with my baby girls. Its the first time I've seen him at the coop - or around the house for that matter - so I'm hoping he wont make me do anything.
