My parents used to own chickens, and I miss them. Now that my husband and I have our own house and land, I have begged him to let me have some of my own, and he finally agreed. I remember some breeds I loved from when my mom had them cochin, speckled Sussex, and I think there was another breed, I'll have to ask her. But I also want to get my own, I really like silkies and am wondering what breeds can go together?

I get because silkies are so small, that is why people don't like to put them together, but I was wondering if maybe they could go in a coop with cochins? My husband and I own 24 acres, have pigs and horses, and also plan on getting some turkeys and ducks after we get our chickens started (although that'll probably be next year). But anyway, we have plenty of land to set up extra coops if we have to. I am just wondering what you guys are thinking?

Since they'll have a lot of land, if we make a big enough coop, will it not be a problem? Otherwise what other breeds could we put together? Should we make a large breed and small breed coop?

And also what about the other animals (turkeys and ducks) can I put them in there? We had some ducks in our coop when we started, and they didn't do bad. Especially once the ducks got big enough. The chickens would go up and roost and the ducks would sit in the little dog house on the floor.
