Good breeds

Many of the production reds I've had were feather pecking birds.
I like varied colors in the egg basket, and Easter Eggers will always have a place here, also French Marans.
Everyone develops favorites! Over time, mine have changed a bit. Just try some different breeds, and see how you like them. So many choices!

Russian Orloffs are very cold hardy, and Dominiques also withstand cool weather well. My Dominique is so fluffy! She makes very distinctive, high-pitched noises.
On the other hand, Orloff makes very distinctive, low-pitched noises.

My Buff Orpingtons are the sweetest little girls and very quiet. They haven't started laying yet, they're still too young, but they're doing very well with the heat here in the Valley of LA, where it gets into the hundreds around this time of year.
