Good breeds

On the other hand, Orloff makes very distinctive, low-pitched noises.

Where did you get the Orloffs I have never seen or heard of them until I joined BYC.

This thread is superinteresting. I have a flock of eight pullets.

2 ISA
2 Barred Rocks
2 Probable Sapphire Olive Eggers
1 EE
1 Jungle Fowl

The ISAs went straight to the top of the order as soon as they started laying. They are the sweetest, human friendly birds. They will follow you around like a dog. Super curious, patient, independent, talkative. But they are loud at times and do not tolerate anyone else in the flock having human touch contact. They do not suffer at all my SOEs getting human pets and will attack and mount them if they see the insult. They are incredible layers though and will definitely have more in the future.

I keep reading that BRs are human friendly, but mine are jerks and constantly peck me or get in my way. One goes in and out of lameness on one leg. I likely will not bother with this breed again.

My SOEs are boring personalitywise, but very quiet and easy keepers.

My EE likes to perch on my shoulder and is always first in the coop at night, nagging all the others it is time to come to bed.

My Jungle Fowl is my yard alarm. She is very good at alerting me if something is not right. Other day, she started alarm screaming. I go out and there are deer in the yard. I am not deer friendly and immediately ran them off. Kudos to her for informing me before they ate half my fruit trees. The rest of the flock was not as concerned. I would not say it is a particularly cold tolerant breed though and I live in a mild climate.
