So I want my hens to go broody. I have had buffs they make great moms. I had one that went broody and hatched chicks almost every year, she sadly died from a fox. So do you have any good broody breeds.

Silkies are notoriously good broodies. They generally go broody about every 3 to 4 months once they start. Second to that are bantam Cochin. Close second-third are game hens.

I kept a brooding stable of Silkies for years before I've created a natural sustainable flock where my large fowl now brood well.

It varies by bird and line but that top 3 of silkies, cochin, and games seems to be pretty common.

Here, we have an australorp who regularly goes broody but we have black silkies in the brooder that we bought in part for that purpose (plus they're awesome). Silkies will happily hatch/raise large fowl, although not necessarily as many at a time as larger birds.

Thanks for all the replies! I heard some were that orps and brhamas go broody ofen is that true?
I will have to get some silkies. They are easy to come across.
