x2 I love my RIRs, BRs and BOs. I reccomend them.

I just started raising chickens. I have Cubalaya and Yokohama's. Can someone please tell me a book to purchase that will cover the care, feeding and preparing birds for shows.

I can't help you with that, but will tell you that you'll get more responses if you start a new thread in the right section and a subject line like--Preparing birds for shows--feeding etc. This is an older thread and on a different subject so your not too likely to get people with the knowledge your looking for here.

If you'd like Chanteclers, look to mypetchicken.com , they have them. They also have a tool for selecting the right chicken for your needs, including winter hardiness. I will be ordering 2 Canteclers, 2 Delaware, 2 Sussex, a Maran, and 3 Silkies. I live in CT in zone 6b. It's great for planting in the summer but the winters still get into the teens for many days during the winter. If it's not cold than the wind makes it seem cold.

In my flock now I have Cochin, Aussies, Hamburgs (but white layers), EE (blue layer), Brahma, and Wyandottes, plus the ones that will be added in the spring which are also brown egg layers. (Sussex lay a pale brown egg.) You have many options. Your best bet is to look for breeds with lots of feathering (for warmth) and small combs (to lessen the chances of frostbite). If you like a large combed breed (like Dorkings or Buttercups), be prepared to apply Vaseline or Bag Balm to their combs and wattles. This can get messy as the stuff seems to attract dirt.

Hello--- My name is Dan and today I became a member. I live in southern Ontario, the Golden horseshoe area. This year I purchased my first chickens to raise and show in the fall fairs. I have Cubalaya, Phoenix and Yokohama, long tails. Because these breeds are rare in this area I have a problem I hope someone can help me with. All the Yokohama's are pullets. I need a cock . Does anyone have this breed and if so do you have a spare rooster you could sell me ?

mypetchicken.com has Phoenix roos and if you live close enough to a major city, like Toronto, you can order just 3, say a roo and 2 hens. They also have Sumatras, another lovely long-tailed breed.
