Good bye Mr. Roopert...

To be honest, it would seem that his negative behavior outweighs any other considerations he gives his hens. I wouldn't encourage that he breed, as you don't want to preserve or perpetuate that type of behavior. If he can't put his hens' safety first, then he's not doing his job.

I've never tolerated roosters that were cruel to my hens. The poor girls work really hard to give me eggs and happiness, they don't deserve to be repaid by forcing them to endure a violent roo. It sounds like you've done everything you can to make him work in your flock. I'm sorry he's not working out.

Another tactic is to BE the Alpha roo. But it takes a LOT of time. Basically you chase him off when he tries to mount a hen. But just like a secondary roo, he'll try to get "his" when your back is turned. Can't put him in the coop when the girls are free ranging? At least they would get some time away from him.
Well I could, but then the hawks will get them. Hes that good at deflecting them because there that active. Haven't lost anyone yet *knock on wood*
And he knows when hes bad...
I work from home so I have been able to dedicate more time to him then most normal people could, or would. When i go out he runs right up and waits for a treat with his girls, but when I GO OUT when hes being bad he bolts and gets away from me as fast as he can. *hence why he got nailed with a shoe*
It upsets the hens, makes them set off alarm calls, and then my bantams all get nervous...I cant stand it anymore and I don't like being mean

At least I found him somewhere to go with a bunch more hens then I have! They even plan on trying to show him just to see how he does. Hopefully they will give him a happyer life

That is very true, and that's why I'm placing him. My girls mean way to much to me!
I have two pullets that were from last years hatch before he turned cranky, and not to mention a whole other rooster just sitting in the garage because I cant find anyone to take him.
Hes a sweet heart to the two girls I have in there with him for company, hes just on the smaller side because hes a Phoenix X sebrite cross.
So

I know what I have to do, and hes going to go to a great home, its just very difficult letting go...

I wish you the best of luck in finding him a good home.
Thank you!!

He ended up finding a home with a wonderful person who has a lot of girls I guess. He knows Ro-Ro's issues so hopefully Mr. Roopert will be happy and so will his new girls.

Congratulations on finding him a new home. I just hope you haven't sent a problem to another set of hens. Or there will be so many, he won't know which direction to go in.

I know he will be eaten if he is still a problem, they are not afraid of the stew pot. T_T
