Who else has done them?

Just did one last night. Friend left for her home and slid off the road. Called me. I called a friend of mine who was closer to her and I headed out to help. Got there and both her and her sister were stuck in the ditch. Sister tried to pull her out and got stuck.
My friend showed up with 2 tow ropes.
Got the sister out first then got my friend out.
They all found out how loud I can yell, as my friends vehicle was coming out it started to go into the ditch on the other side of the road and I yelled, "Stop!" Both vehicles stopped. Everyone was out, safe and ready to get out of the cold and get warm.

Interesting topic. Here's my take on it....

When I was a young'un, I got my vehicle stuck. A stranger stopped, helped gather fir boughs for traction, hooked up a tow rope and pulled me out. I offered to pay him for his time and trouble. He told me
"If I took your money, I'd jinx myself. Just 'pay it forward'."
I remembered his words and actually used them in similar situations over many decades. I could fill a volume with the many times a "random act of kindness" has been repaid in kind, and not by the original recipient.

That saying has been around since the days of Oscar Wilde. It can be true when altruistic intention is lacking.
