Good dual purpose breeds

Another thought, go look in Where are You and see if there's a topic for folks near you... you can ask them what kind of birds they have and you'll know in advance they can hack it in your climate! Then check for DP, temper, etc?

In the case of the Java's it was both slow to grow out and slow to be sexually mature. The Ameraucana's are growing and filling out fine but seem to slower to be sexually mature for their size.

bantiebabe1200 you have a picture of what looks like a Buff Brahma Bantam a nice one. Do you want to order your large fowl from a Hatchery or a breeder. There is a difference. Do you want the Standard kind or Hatchery kind.?If you want the Hatchery Kind order yours from Ideal Hatchery any breed you should be happy. If not you need to do some hunting as most large fowl Standard beeds only have about five to ten breeders left in the Country. Have you seen the pictures of the Barred Plymouth Rocks on the Plymouth Rock Heritage thread out of Kansas? This strain is over 100 years old and are super large fowl. bob
