I candle at day 7 to get a feel and mark the eggs, but I wait until Day 14 before I do anything drastic. Sometimes I don't candle at all and just leave them all in.

Part of it depends on your candling technique and how good your equipment is. Part of it depends on how dark the shells are. I have some green eggs I can't see anything inside. Maybe if I had better equipment? Part of it depends on your experience. How good are you are candling? Have you done it enough to have confidence in your ability?

It's all about how well you can see in the eggs. If the eggs are white and clear at 8 days, they are not fertile.

With my silkie eggs I can candle at 4 days and KNOW which are growing and which are not. Same with most of my blue eggs. My green are really hard to see in, as are some brown.
