Second year raising chickens.
I lost 4 beautiful birds to Mareks last year. So my chicken family is a closed loop. I have to vaccinate the chicks I hatch, and soup pot my extra roosters. No one gets to leave except the eggs.
I built my coop, and got a kit for my run with the hopes of doubling it as a chicken tractor but it's to wide to get out of the yard. ha!
These are my hens Sassy, Buffy, and Buttercup (silkie, Brahma, Lavender Splash Orpington), I also have three roosters, all Orpingtons, two silver laced, Fuzz, and Splash and one white, Thor. One of them is going in the stew pot though. He loves to create drama for the other two. I'm currently building a tractor so my hens can graze safely. And a secondary tractor for new chicks. I feel like I'm always building something for these chickies. I eventually want to build a concrete block coop that I'm designing in my head, but that's a while from now. The breeds I'm interested in are: Blue Australorps, Lavender Ameraucanas, Cream Legbars, Copper Marans, and Salmon Favarolles.
I'm also interested in the larger breeds Jersey Giants, Brahmas, but I have smaller breeds now so I'm sticking to that for now.
