There are many natural herbs you can grow around chicken coops and in the yard to help keep them healthy.Like Oregon and thyme.
 
Do nir use DR in food unless food grade,and do not use it when windy.Putting it outside is useless because if it gets wet it is no longer good.

I only use it in the coop.I get cracks,and everything.Helps control mites and lice.
 
A lot of chickens have a rather short life span, I think that 3-4 years is fairly common. Some chickens do live much longer, but I do not expect mine to do so. My point being is that a natural death is pretty common with poultry.

Good food, clean water and space are not romantic solutions, but they are the best in the long run. If you have a metal waterer, I would not add the vinegar. I do soak my scratch, and a natural yeast forms in it. My chickens seem to love it. But that is all.
