Good grief chiggers suck

mom'sfolly :

For those in the north or other countries...chiggers are something you learn about when you live in the southern part of the US. They are microscopic bugs, literally smaller then the period at the end of this sentence. What the lack in size, the make up for in shear misery in the bite. Like some one else said, they like tight spaces, so they seldom bite in places you can scratch in public. They itch horribly, and for a long time. It is the kind of itch that can keep you up all night, trying not to scratch, and fearing you will run mad from the irritation.

You mean there are places that don't have Chiggers?
I thought those ''evils'' were everywhere! I hate those things.

Everything mom'sfolly said x's a million!

In North Jersey where I live, we don't have ANY chiggers. I had never even heard of them until I started school in south jersey! Then of course I get hit with them the first week of school!

Not funny! Central PA???

Harrisburg, Lebanon, York, Andreas, Tamaqua, Leesport, Walnutport, Quakertown - These are all areas where I have met the little critters while attending field trials.

I don't know how well it would work on chigger bites, but lavender oil mixed with water (I use a spray bottle) work great for rashes and bug bites. I use anywhere from 10 to 30 drops of oil per 8 oz of water. I use this on us humans and the dogs.

Now that I'm in NM, I tease my aunts in Ga. that they must come visit me because I have no chiggers here! But I'm just kidding....kinda.......
Last time we were there - May - my DH had no idea and walked right through a field instead of following the road because he saw it as a short cut. Then he asked me why it took me so long to get to the other side of the farm.

Thank Everything that the baby was still in a backpack!! The poor man was miserable for weeks!!

My youngest son went fishing with his Pawpaw, and wore a pair of cut off shorts. Later that night, he was so swollen and irritated in the area that is covered by the shorts, that I had to take him to the ER. They told him that the chiggers got him, and gave us some kind of salve. It was years ago. One of the boys in the neighborhood told him that he best hope the swelling doesn't ever go down. He wears sweats when he fishes from the bank anymore.
