I live in Northern California and have a 6 chicken back yard flock made up of a Barred Rock, a Giant Blue Cochin, a Naked Neck, a Motled Houdan, and two white silkies.
I raised them from day old chicks and now they are about 1 year old.
They forage most of the day in my garden, but I’d like to lessen that to a few hours to get my garden in better growth status.

I have a 10 year old daughter who also loves our chickens.

I have a Boston terrier dog that we share with my parents so he comes and goes -he is old and has no interest in the chickens.

We feed our chickens an organic crumble layer feed, have oyster shells available, I put a splash of apple cider vinegar in their water daily. I also give them a good amount of kitchen scraps.

I’ve looked at threads on a backyard chickens for a while but now I really need help with my chickens so I posted a thread on why there is heavy loss of feathers in the spring and why we have on going wrinkled eggs.

:yesss:We are glad you joined our flock.
Jump right in and make yourself at home.
Limit scraps to once a week. Feeding only a complete feed is really much better, imo.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock and/or other critters, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
