Hey Y'all! My name is Britain and I just got a chick yesterday. Someone thought it would be cute to give kids baby chicks for Easter and I was handed one that was unwanted by the one kid's parents... and I realized, past the basics, I have no idea what I am doing... My dad had chickens when I was growing up but I never paid very much attention on how they were cared for. So I am here!

Hope you are all doing well!

Hello and :welcome
I'm glad you seem willing to give that chick a good home! First things first, get it a few friends. Chickens are social animals, and even if you spend a lot of time with the chick it'll still be lonely without companions. You need a brooder, with heat, food and water for the birds. Feed should be available from any feed store near you, or you can mash up a bit of egg to give it if you can't get to one right now. Get a heat lamp, it's pretty important that chicks are kept warm until they are feathered out enough. Good luck!

Lol, thank you everyone... friends for "Nugget" are on the horizon I think. S/He came with ziplock of food... so that makes things easier. Nugget is a total lap chicken though and the more I read that's kinda abnormal huh? S/He peeps up a storm everywhere but if I stick her/him in my lap silence and sleeping chick follows.
