First official post! Eggcited to join this page. I have raised chickens for several years and have referenced as well as utilized several threads and articles from this site!
I purchased my band of mix & matched "ladies" early spring and am just now seeing sporadic tiny eggs.. I currently have 15 in my flock. 1 Golden Laced Wynadotte named Lacey, 1 Columbian Wynadotte named Salena, 2 Golden Buff Orphingtons - Goldie & Nugget, 6 Blue Wynadotte- Bellle, Bonnet, Bunny, Sky, Velvet & Moon... 2 Easter Eggers - Sunday & Glory....an Aracauna rooster named Rhett then the Barnvelder girls Hildie & Gertie.... Yeah yeah I know.. name game. But I love em all.
My coop AKA "The Chicken Hilton", "mom's Club House", " The Happy Chick Inn" is in about 12x16 converted half of equipment shed. Painted a sage green and trimmed in white outside and light gray inside .. well Its a work in progress.. is attached to a 4ft wide x 4ft tall fully enclosed run 45 ft long. I must admit I have "decorated" it will advertising tins, signs and whatever I could find at a yard sale...lol I use Corn Cob bedding with a mixture of cedar chips about 2" deep as litter... I use a sprayer with watered down Permethrin whenever I deep clean (1-2x a month) before installing fresh litter.. Put herbs in my waterers..and feed organic feed mixed at local mill... and make sure to soak cotton balls in Peppermint oil to tuck in the grooves of the celieng and under the floor to keep mice, spider and other creepy crawlies away..
Just gathered 3 tiny eggs yesterday so the girls are right on time. Getting ready to start weather proofing for winter...
