Hi, I'm Rebecca! I'm happy to be a member and wanted to introduce myself, so here is my survey! My first quail hatch is on day 18 with only one hatched so far...
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes, brand new! I don't have any yet, but am trying to hatch some Coturnix Quail eggs. I might have gone on an egg buying binge last night for my next hatches...
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
None. They are actually against code in my residential/agricultural district unless you have 5+ acres. I could probably get away with three hens for eggs, but I'm going to try quail first since they aren't barred from being kept.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I hope to raise coturnix. I've ordered several varities and plan on trying to breed for breast size.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I think the eggs will be great! Also teaching the kids about animal husbandry since I've always enjoyed it. Having a source of meat won't be a bad thing either.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Photography, gardening, and it was baking but I was gaining too much weight so I switched over to quilting!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have two toddlers and two cats, and a partner who is currently over the road, so this helps us stay busy. I work as a practice manager in a physical therapy office. Right now our hours are short due to COVID19 so it's allowing me to get things set up!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I kept coming across BYC when I was looking up answers to the many, many questions I had/have. I tend to over-research when I invest in a hobby! After lurking a while the community came across as pretty welcoming and funny so I decided to join and post an intro!
