Good old flashlight

Possums can bite through reg. chicken wire. So can any preditor with intent. We had a dog one time that bite through hardware cloth as well. Reinforce the chicken wire with hard ware cloth on the coop. Possum have awesome teeth. Yuck. Yep they love cat food. If the stray cats here don't eat all their food they are the first to get it. I hate them. There was a stray hen when I first moved here and I loved the way she would sing and peck. One night they got her. At the time I didn't have chickens and did not realize the dangers they would be in. I know now. My hb says our chicken house is fort knox. Lol. Jean

This is a pic of our coop:

We have chicken wire on the inside, outside and along the top AND bottom. Then the chickens get locked up in the chicken house at night.

I didn't have my cell phone on me, otherwise I would have called my husband in the house and told him to bring his gun.

Don't know if I would have had the wits about me to close the door with the possum inside with me though. Just took me by suprise. And like I said, I was envisioning (insert any comedy movie name here) with an animal attached to my face and me screaming bloody murder.

Thank God you had the flashlight!! I would've freaked out!!! They sure are ugly creatures!!! Good job bashing him!! What are you bringing to lock the girls up tonight??? Was it a plastic flashlight or one of those heavy metal ones? I wear a baseball hat with lights on the fornt. I would'nt be able to bash him with that, maybe I will start bringing a real flashlight! LOL!!

I know if I had found one clinging to the top of the wire, I would have ran back inside and gotten the shotgun and taken care of the problem. However, I have a dog that would take care of the problem if I needed her to. She's a good dog. I don't like possums.

Gross!! My hubby has one of those flashlights, you officially freaked me out enough to tell him I am using that from now on!! Its cold here now, so the animals are hungrier, less food supply around!! ThankFully for you he went the other way, HUH!!

See, eating it would require touching it and skinning it, and that ain't going to happen!

I had contemplated running back inside for hubby, but I was a bit afraid that the sucker would go into the chicken house and finish what he came for.

I SHOULD have locked chicken house, closed coop and ran for home. But face eating possum scared me to much to think logically.

Right, and if they can bite through chicken wire, imagine what they could do to your face!! Or your girls!! What are possum good for anyway??
