Does anyone know of general things to look at when preparing for the possibility of a roo? I cannot have roosters, nor do I want them at this point in life. I also will not eat one of my birds, so freezer camp isn't an option. What do people usually look for?

I don't currently have any to rehome, but I would like to be prepared for the possibility, and know what types of things to look for in my area.

Ask your local feed store if they would take it back to resell to someone else. Craigslist. News paper ad. post ad at your local feed store. Ask a local wildlife sanctuary or zoo if they would take it for feeding their animals.Give it to someone not attached emotionally to butcher for themselves.
Or last resort if you can butcher it but not eat it yourself, then butcher ,cook and feed to your dogs or cats if you have any. They will thankyou.

Ok, thank you for all these great options! I'll make sure to look for these places near me.

You are not ready for the risk. If birds to be acquired, then get them at an age they can be accurately sexed. Acquire juvenile or more mature birds.
I think that I'll be fine ordering chicks. I understand that there is a chance that the hatchery will make mistakes, and I started this thread to know what to look for around me to rehome roos.

Be smarter and get advanced birds. Cost in the end will not be more plus no headache that will in most likelihood result in demise of bird you have.
