I have recently uncovered a swindler in the business of selling poultry, rabbits, and guinea pigs.
Good Sherpard Game Farm
I started contact with Benedict earlier this year looking for cheap goslings to raise for the freezer. He could not help me, but kept in contact asking if I'd buy from him. We never reached an agreement in that sense.
Recently he asked if I would trade him large amounts of my birds for some of his. I thought it would be a great way to get some breeder geese. So, I proceeded to try to come to a fair trade. He kept offering things I didn't want, which was no big deal.
Then I started calculating the dollar value of the trades. This was using his prices he told me, and my own prices that I even cut back by a third in the case of my ducks in an effort to come close to his proposals. He wanted fair market value for his birds, but wanted less than wholesale hatchery prices for mine. Remember, he contacted me trying to trade, because he needed ducks, turkeys, and chickens.
I was really only interested in his Toulouse geese. I was trying to be helpful to him and cut him a little slack. He told me he had adult geese and that they are 50 dollars each. I made a proposal accordingly. We finally reached an agreement and then proceeded to drive to his place, almost 2 hours away.
We completed the trade, and I didnt even complain when the geese were actually juveniles. I then made a side deal and bought a guinea hen for 20 dollars, 5 less than his asking price. I had also brought 3 sebrights as gifts. In return, he offered a cayuga duck that had severe wry neck for me to take and butcher. This duck could not be butchered, I later found out, as it was only skin and bones. He did this as he was "unable" to euthanize himself. He has a VERY large quantity of animals. He should be able to euthanize himself.
He also handed me a price sheet of his own stock. I did not ask for it...
After coming home, I looked at the sheet. That is when I found that he quoted me prices that were twice his actual prices. Yes, his sheet says "subject to change" but he should have mentioned it, or, if they are that far off, should not hand out his sheets.
I agree that it was my fault for agreeing to the trade in the first place, but, he misrepresented his own prices by significant amounts. He also pushed very hard for me to lower my prices to ridiculously low levels.
His sheet also shows that he charges $24 for each turkey, I figured at $6. His sheet shows $7-$15 for young adult ducks, I figured at $10.
