Good times for Dickey Incubators

I am just on the edge of purchasing a Dickey Incubator, the slightest nudge and it will be all over. I am not posting for a debate or input of Dickey VS. Sportsman. I simply found it curious in speaking with Mr. Dickey that he told me he is having his best year ever in sales. This is over the worst year he ever had last year. Last year the worst in over 40 years and this the best ever.

I wonder if folks here would agree that the fact that this site has thousands of members and that his incubator recieved some good attention here that this has been largely responsible for driving his sales? Or maybe in this economy people are finding relatively low cost hobbies that also provide a bit of return.

I just found it interesting that somehow a relatively obscure business has had such a nice rebound,.

He was a great guy and I loved his home spun style and manner. Only 75 dollars freight to Colorado. I didnt thinkt that was too bad.

If you spoke further in more detail you would find the increase in his business is not directly related to BYC members. He is seeing a jump in all areas not just people like us.

But, yes, word of mouth does drive sales on a board like this.

I think a lot of it has to do with word of mouth. When I was looking to buy a cabinet bator, I didn't know about the Dickey. I only knew about the Sportsman, so that was what I was going to buy, until someone on this forum told me about the Dickey (Go Bamachicken!). I don't think I was the only one here who didn't know about the Dickey. We started talking about it, and lots of people here have ordered from him since then. I'm not saying it's the main reason his sales are up, but I'm sure it hasn't hurt him at all. I'm so happy for him-he's a very nice man who builds a great incubator, and has great customer service. He deserves it.

I would highly recommend the Dickey to you and anyone else who is looking to buy a cabinet incubator.

Dickey is the way to go in my book. Been using one for the last three years. Hundreds of quail and chickens hatched.

The only thing that keeps me from making the order is that, it is really larger than I need. I would love to find someone that can build a beautiful cabinet that will hold about 100 eggs. I want the cabinet to have the look of a nice piece of furniture.

I am not a cabinet maker and do not have tools appropriate for such fine work. I think the wood should be a heart red wood and a window in it for clear observation.

Anyone want to build this thing?

I have not seen a real nice quality wood one with this lower capacity. I wonder if the cost would be too high to make it marketable.

Find a cabinet maker in the area and tell him what you want, maybe you could get a COVER for a ugly incubator, if that makes sense. So the only time you would see the actual Incubator was when you were actually checking on the eggs.

The last time I spoke to him he said he had had a lot of incubators bought word of mouth since my purchase.
I am very pleased with my bator.

I just got a Sportsman and love it but I didn't purchase it new.

Paula the only thing I regret is that I didn't get the full acrylic see through door. I may have to have one in the future. I just hatched eggs in the bottom of the bator for the first time leaving the doors closed and raising humidity. They all hatched. I did use the hova to hatch some so I could keep them separate from the others due to coming from different breeding pens but I think I like the Dickey hatching much better except I could'nt see what was happening. I just had to wait till this morning to open the thing.
I have got to move chicks to the brooder this morning.
