I am thinking about getting more chickens to keep up with all of my very demanding egg customers and was wondering about white egg layers. I have done some research but everything I have read has said they are generally flighty birds. Anyone have any experience with a breed that lays white eggs but is not so flighty?

I don't have personal experience with them, but I have read that Barred Hollands aren't as flighty as most Leghorns. California Grays have the same reputation.

I keep White Leghorns myself and do not find them to be a panicky as some folks claim. I brood them calmer, brown egg breeds and this seems to help.

Leghorns are not flighty.

They are active.

There just isn't any other breed that will come even close to the productive capabilites of a commercial white Leghorn. If you have a calm manner while around them they will adopt pretty much the same attitude. But don't try to scoop them up and pet them or dive at them to grab by the legs because they will be on the wing.

I have white leghorns, and I love them. Hoping to get some more hatched in the next few months, best eggs I ever had.
