Yesterday morning my bf went out to check on the chickens before we went to visit my mom and Bob, Himmler and Cheeto had passed away. It must have been due to the heat, but this is the last of the original 8 that came here. They were almost 10 months old and more active than when they came to us at about 2 months old.
While I love all my chickens Bob held a special place in my heart bc he was a true buddy. I would gather him up and he would hang out in a chair on the porch with me while I read, usually until it got too dark for me to see and then he would peck at the door to come in while I was putting my book up. He would hang out in the living room playing 'Godzilla' to the baby chicks in the house and trying to steal their food. When he first arrived with all the others both him and Himmler has URIs so they came in the house for their meds for 2 wks and Bob got used to warm oatmeal and scrambled eggs and lots of hugs, which the others never really cared for LoL On the days when Bob was inside he would follow me around the living room examining the carpet for anything new and tasty that the dogs may have left behind from a treat. And wehn we had a hail storm that knocked out 5 of the windows in the house he was the ONLY chicken that came out to 'help' my bf during the storm when he was trying to cover our windows.
If Chickenstock hadn't been postponed Bob would have worn his custom made Bumble Bee costume, now its just sitting in the closet. I had so many plans with Bob, he was a wonderful friend.

Bob, two days after we got him, after a bath and in front of the heater.

Himmler, also after a bath in front of the heater. He and Bob were both being treated for URIs

Sometimes I forget not everyone here knows about these guys living with me...they were factory farm broiler chickens.
And just to let everyone know we still have Bridgette (the girl we found on a bridge).

I'm so sorry for these losses so close to your heart. Thank you for making their short lives so much better - they knew they were cared about and safe. With you , they were able to experience joy and wonder.
