When my neighbors had a flock, I had this one hen who I loved to death. She was so sweet. While we were on vacation, my neighbors called and said half their flock (which meant five birds) had been killed by raccoons. I was so scared it was her.I have a hen like this. I was on my way home from a camping trip when our neighbor who was watching the chickens told us a predator attacked the coop at night. It had broken through the wood and killed one of the hens. She found a pile of feathers on the floor. I was scared to death if could be Sunshine, and when she told us it was a Buff I cried all the way home. We only have 3 Buff Orps, so of course I convinced myself it was her.
When we got home I frantically searched the coop and didn't see Sunny. I couldn't believe it, but when I rounded the coop I found her happy and untouched perched on the edge of the run. Turns out the neighbor who knows nothing about chickens called the EE that got eaten a Buff, and even though I liked her as well, I have to admit I was relieved it wasn't Sunny.
Your baby will turn up one way or another. Chickens are skittish, of course the fireworks scared her away and she's hiding somewhere, thats what chickens do. And in the process of scaring themselves to death, they do the best they can to make us just as worried as they are. She'll be alright, you take care of yourself to, you can only do so much and worrying shouldn't be one of your priorities. Try to get some rest.![]()
*Sending hugs*.
Oh my goodness. I am so happy. Thank goodness she's okay. I can't imagine the emotional rollercoaster the past few days have been.an hour outside shaking my bag like a crazy person, and a neighbor asks "what are you doing?!" I said "I lost my chicken".. she said "I've seen a chicken in the neighbors bush. I thought it was theirs"... so I walked up to this "bush" and dottie didn't come from the bush, but she came waltzing over from the neighbors backyard.
So there. she was doing who knows what at the neighbors this weekend.
thanks for the scare, dott dott
