I have been checking the clearance produce cart or hitting up the produce guy for produce that is no longer sellable but still good. My chickens are eating like queens. Maybe you guys can talk to your grocer. I'm sure they all have different rules but it's worth a try.

I was just thinking about that yesterday. We live in a small town and I know the manager fairly well. I am actually a pretty shy person and hate asking for things, but with the cost of feed it would be a big help. Also it makes for very happy girls. Congrats on getting some treats for yours!

I've been thinking of doing that, I think it is a good idea it's just gonna be thrown out anyway.

I do that for the guinea pigs- our grocery has a great corner shelf full of older produce usually.

This morning my girls feasted:

4 cups of miniature scallops left over from the risotto from my sister's wedding, 2 cups of leftover oatmeal from breakfast (good, old-fashioned, long-cooking stuff) and leftover edamame from supper last night! All nicely warmed and stirred up together- delish!

I'm going for the rusty romaine for a dinner treat.

I was thinking of the same thing. I buy my chicks the best greens, Romain, Chickery, Red Leaf, but I see that there are some bags that they cannot sell. Not that it is rotten, but in New York City, a bargin today goes a long way

Might just try some if the produce is still pretty good.
